Question 1

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

No. Open NoteMD and write on this device without signing in. A free account adds end-to-end encrypted hosted sync for one workspace; Pro adds multiple workspaces and paid features.

Question 2

Where are my notes stored?

Accepted Answer

Notes are saved in your browser storage on this device. If you enable hosted sync, an encrypted copy is stored on our servers and decrypted on your devices with your passphrase. GitHub Gist and Google Drive copies are not encrypted by NoteMD.

Question 3

Can I use NoteMD offline?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once NoteMD has loaded, you can read and edit your local notes offline. You can also install it as an app in supported browsers. With hosted sync enabled, local changes sync when you reconnect.

Question 4

Can I export my notes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Guest users and account holders can import and export Markdown files or a ZIP. Keep backups outside your browser so clearing browser storage does not remove your only copy.

Question 5

How does sync work, and is it optional?

Accepted Answer

Sync is optional and off by default. A free account can use end-to-end encrypted hosted sync for one workspace or GitHub Gist sync. Pro adds hosted sync for every workspace and Google Drive backup. Folder sync is available to account holders in Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers. Gist and Drive copies are not encrypted by NoteMD.

Question 6

What happens after the 30-day app trial?

Accepted Answer

If you have not started a paid Pro subscription, your account becomes a free account. Your local notes stay on this device, and hosted sync remains available for one workspace. Pro features stop until you upgrade. No card is needed to start the app trial; paid checkout is a separate step.

Question 7

What if NoteMD shuts down?

Accepted Answer

Your local notes remain in your browser storage. An installed, cached copy can work offline, and exported Markdown files can be opened in other editors. Keep regular exports or backups; browser storage can be cleared or removed.

Question 8

How do I get help?

Accepted Answer

Read the NoteMD docs and support FAQ, or email support@notemd.io. Account holders can also send a message from the contact page.
